Our Vision

“In India, WHO estimates that the burden of mental health problems is of the tune of 2,443 DALYs per 100,000 population, and the age-adjusted suicide rate per 100,000 population is 21.1. It is estimated that, in India, the economic loss, due to mental health conditions, between 2012-2030, is estimated to be in trillions of dollars.”

WHO (World Health Organization India) These numbers irked us. It wasn’t too late when we decided to do what is the need of this hour – reduce these numbers in every single way possible. Whether one’s at work, home, school or anywhere else, we are well equipped to reach out to these people via email, website, helpline, social media and even in person.

MyZindagi is committed towards a brighter tomorrow for every citizen of this nation. With our team of experts and volunteers, we wish to affect as many as lives as we can as commence. Through our highly effective program – Suicide Prevention Education, we tend to provide direct services to children, adolescents and adults on how to deal with suicide and its after effects. Not only the victims but, our program is astutely crafted to even educate the families of the victims.

Apart from this, MyZindagi also provides Mental Health Services via long-term psychotherapeutic support to survivors of all ages.

You are not alone. There are others who have the same questions, concerns, & doubts.Helplines

Vikas Shethi

I am here to talk about fading into oblivion and finding a silver lining. You all have of course known me as ‘Robbie’ from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, ‘Prem Basu’ from Kasautii Zindagii Kay, ‘Abir’ from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi or as one of the many characters I have played on screen. But today, I wish to introduce you to Vikas Sethi, the real me. Real me in the terms of who I was and who I am today.
Before I begin, I would like to ask you guys a few questions. Has anyone of you ever felt like withdrawing from your social circles like family and friends? Okay, has anyone of you felt like relying on sedatives or alcohol?
Deepika Paduknone
Great. Let me begin by telling you that these are some of the symptoms of depression and anxiety. The reason why I am saying this is because I have been through it. Yes, it is quite a common thing in our entertainment industry that a lot of celebrities undergo depression or anxiety. For that case, you would be shocked to know as per some sources, in our country one student commits suicide every 55 minutes. Yes, until 2014 as many as 27,000 students had succumbed to the educational pressure and had committed suicide. Just imagine the numbers now.

Having said this, I would like to tell you about my story. My career until a point was sailing smooth and one fine day I find myself a victim of this deadly disease – DEPRESSION. Yes, it is a disease. And it came along with a whole lot of bad memories, bitter situations and worst days of my life. However, I was lucky enough to have my wife Jhanvi who is a counsellor, right next to me as the pillar of my strength. But, I was not vocal about it. Had I been vocal and taken precautions right from the day I started experiencing the symptoms, I would have saved myself from going through the unwanted oblivion. Now that when I look back at it and hear a lot many similar stories from the industry itself, I have realised there is a void. A void that needs to be filled and help people not only fight depression but prevent it from the day you experience the symptoms.

Cut to today, I am glad to announce a much needed initiative that I feel will help us – you and me to come forward and battle this disease. This is because depression is not a taboo and we NEED to openly talk about it. Trust me, it helps. This will be a platform dedicated to depression prevention and cure. We have a team of expert, senior counsellors who will be available 24x7 for you or any specialised programs for depression prevention where we get rid of it even before it strikes and depression prevention for those who are already suffering from it. This platform will go by the name of ‘My Zindagi’ and we will be always available to anyone and everyone suffering from depression in our country be it my fellow industry members or students or anyone around you.
Yes, this is because I went through it and I don’t want a single person to go through it or atleast battle it successfully only to live happily ever after. I am thankful to founders of My Zindagi Foundation, Dixita Mehta and Jhanvi Sethi for standing up for this cause which needs immediate attention and providing it to the society in best way possible.
So, here’s me presenting “My Zindagi” to you...
Thank you.
